A Day Out at Flushing Meadows Corona Park
Flushing Meadows Corona Park is the largest park in Queens and hosted the 1939 and 1964 World’s Fairs. The Unisphere, the giant steel globe built for the 1964 fair, still stands at its center and is one of the best-known landmarks in the borough.
What to see
- The Unisphere and its fountain pool, in season.
- The Queens Museum, next to the Unisphere, home of the Panorama of the City of New York.
- The New York Hall of Science and the Queens Zoo.
- Meadow Lake and Willow Lake, with long paths for walking and cycling.
Getting there
The 7 train stops at Mets–Willets Point and 111 St, both a short walk from the park. Check the MTA website for weekend service changes before you go.
Plan for the weather
Much of the park is open lawn and paved plaza with little shade. Bring water, sunscreen, a hat and sunglasses in summer, and an extra layer on breezy spring and fall days.
Know the event calendar
The park also hosts the US Open tennis tournament in late summer and many festivals. These bring big crowds, so check what’s on if you want a quieter visit.
Leave it as you found it
Use the bins, keep dogs on a leash where required, and stay on paths near planted areas so the park stays green for everyone.
